My name is Richard Sleeman and I am a qualified mathematics teacher based in Somerset in the UK providing online tutoring for students both in the UK and worldwide.
I began teaching maths in 2009 after completing an engineering degree at Cardiff University. I qualified in the UK and have taught in both the state and independent sectors, working as Deputy Head of Maths at two schools. I also taught internationally in Portugal for 5 years. My teaching has covered all abilities across the age range from 11 to 18 and I am experienced supporting students with GCSE, IGCSE, A Level and the IB Diploma at HL and SL.
I aim to make maths engaging and enjoyable for the students I teach. The approach will be dependent on the age and ability of the individual and will be designed to help them to reach their potential. This comes from ensuring students develop a deep understanding of the skills and topics covered and are able to practise applying these skills across a range of questions in different contexts.
If you have any questions or are interested in having tutoring please do get in touch.
Since 2021, all of the tutoring I offer has been online. While online tutoring is very similar to in-person teaching, I have found it to be even more effective and engaging for students. I make use of a range of digital tools to make Maths clearer, more interactive and immersive.
I use Google Meet for video calls alongside Figma as an interactive, collaborative whiteboard. This allows both the student and me to write on the same board, with everything visible to each other in real time. This creates a shared working environment that feels very similar to sitting together at a desk, while also offering additional tools that can make explanations more visual and engaging. In Figma, exam questions can easily be dragged and dropped directly onto the board, where they can be annotated and worked through clearly using a range of tools, including highlighters, lines and shapes.
Ideally, students will have access to a tablet or another touchscreen device, as this makes it much easier for them to write and work directly in Figma. I use a Wacom One tablet (Medium) which connects directly to a computer via USB and allows me to write with the included stylus pen.
Individual online tuition is charged at £45 for a 45 minute session or £56 for a 1 hour session.
For students studying IB Higher Level or A Level Further Maths the rate is £60 for a 1 hour session.
Group sessions are available and are suitable for students of a similar age and ability.
Group sessions for 2 students are charged at £35 per student for a 1 hour session.
For enquiries about groups larger than 2 students please get in touch.
Invoices are sent at the end of each month so there is no need to pay in advance for lessons. Invoices include information about making international payments.
